• Alternatively, messages to a major customer may share a port with all messages to a VAN that serves most other customers and the trading partners.
• The VAN does not process the message files until all messages in queue are transmitted to the company's VAN mailbox (because VANs, by definition, are store-and-forward networks.) This may take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the number of messages.
• The VAN takes another 10-15 minutes for sorting and transmitting the files to the mailboxes of the trading partners.
